US Hospital Emergency Rooms Are Under Cyber Attacks
Plus: skepticism about climate change and CO2 levels, the correlation between COVID-19 vaccination and cardiac mortality, a solar eruption hits Earth, and the interplay of genetics and social mobility
Warfare: Cyberattack Launched Against Hospitals Across U.S.
A severe cyberattack has disrupted hospital computer systems across the US, leading to the closure of emergency rooms in several states. The crisis started at facilities managed by California-based Prospect Medical Holdings, prompting them to bring in cybersecurity experts and go offline. Cyberattacks and hacking incidents have been rising globally, compromising data security in various sectors. There has also been a significant increase in ransom payments due to these attacks. The current hack necessitated the diversion of patients to other medical facilities and led to the suspension of numerous health services. The Genetics of Social Class and Intuition Sumps
Economist Gregory Clark has spent decades studying the relationship between genetics and social class. His research, documented in books like A Farewell to Alms and The Son Also Rises, uses data from over a million English marriage records, spanning centuries of social history. His findings suggest social mobility is largely a product of genetic correlation and not socioeconomic advancement. Unsurprisingly, Clark's work has faced backlash from detractors who view it as echoing eugenics, which affects his acceptance in academia. Meanwhile, Clark's data intends to prove the driving factors of social mobility and status stability are far more complex and tied to biology than previously thought. The Infuriating Climate Alarm
The article presents a skeptical view of climate change, suggesting many claims made by climate scientists and mainstream media are over-dramatised or even false. The author argues that prolonged periods of hot weather or fires do not have a direct correlation with increased CO2 levels and are not evidential proof of human-induced climate change. The author further states that the insistence on pointing fingers to CO2 emissions as the main cause of climate change distracts from addressing other critical environmental crisis, and hints on a hidden agenda behind this global narrative. He concludes by expressing disbelief that many people are easily convinced of this "scam".Cardiac Mortality Up During 28 Days after COVID-19 Vaccination in Self-Controlled Studies from England, Italy, United States
Research led by Marchand et al. explored three self-controlled cohorts 28 days after receiving COVID-19 injections. Compared to a longer observation period of 25 months, they discovered a slightly increased risk of cardiac-related mortality in the first month after vaccination, notably higher amongst males. The leading factors for cardiac death appear to be myocarditis in younger individuals and the progression of cardiovascular disease in the elderly. Furthermore, the study found the COVID-19 vaccines could initiate cardiac arrest in patients with coronary disease or nonischemic cardiomyopathy. It also suggested increased risks of blood clotting related to heart disease.TICKLE TICKLE LITTLE STAR?
In an unprecedented event, a massive solar eruption hit Earth, the Moon, and Mars simultaneously, raising concerns about the safety of current and future interplanetary missions. This is the first time such an occurrence has been measured on three planetary surfaces at once. The powerful solar storm managed to infiltrate Earth's protective magnetic field and severely impacted the Moon and Mars, both of which lack such shielding. The event was observed by various international spacecraft, including ESA's ExoMars Trace Gas Orbiter and NASA's Curiosity Mars rover. Scientists emphasize understanding and potentially manipulating such solar events as crucial to protecting future crewed missions.
